Optimal Hiring Decision

A while back our author was assigned a task to hire a couple team members for a specific project. He knew the specific quantitative requirements like qualifications, work experience and other hands-on skills. Importantly, he also knew the qualitative aspects of team members who initiated the hiring. So like any hiring manager, he went on to look for candidates with similar quantitative as well as qualitative aspects. The team was eventually formed and they delivered very well. We thought we had created an optimum team.

Note - All the team members now have the same hard and soft skills but importantly, same sets of career goals!

Within less than a year, the team faced maturity in their roles and all of them wanted to glide to the same set of paths which created a vacuum in the organisation.

To all the Candidates applying or looking for a job - when asked about “Where do you see yourself 1-3 years down the line “, be very honest and candid about it. The hiring manager is looking to create a sustainable team.

To all the Hiring Managers / Recruiters - Be wary of capturing the same talent and focus more on Diversity / Inclusion.
